Born 1925, Granada. Cardenal is a poet and sculptor, and Nicaraqua's former Minister of Culture. He actively promoted Nicaraguan art during his tenure, and supported and developed art institutions in the country, bringing forth a renaissance in folk art. He founded the School of Art in Solentiname and has been awarded numerous diplomas and prizes worldwide.
